What this job can offer you

The position

The year is 2025, and at Remote, the story of our Data Team is one of exciting expansion. We are looking for a colleague - the first Senior Data Scientist to join our Central Data Team.

If you're driven by a desire to make a difference, your search might just end here. This role is about building something significant: you'll have the unique opportunity to build our data science function from the ground up and lead the charge in developing advanced data products that will directly fuel our Product & Marketing strategies.

The groundwork has been laid. 2024 was a year of building as we’ve implemented a powerful data platform with Snowflake, dbt and Sigma at it’s core. And now, the narrative shifts to innovation and impact, led by you!

The team

We are a collaborative team of over 20 data professionals (including Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, and Data Analysts) distributed across more than 10 countries.

What you bring

  • Solid experience as a data scientist solving business problems via advanced data products.
  • Strong interest and extensive knowledge within the topic of AI.
  • Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical modelling and data mining techniques.
  • Long-term experience in Python for data science, including experience with its scientific stack such Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge how to interpret experiment results and how to handle statistical uncertainties.
  • Familiarity with MLOps principles and tools (e.g: DVC, MLFlow).
  • Proven capacity to effectively collaborate with high-level leadership, coupled with the skill to clearly document complex analyses and processes for diverse audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills enabling effective prioritisation of tasks within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative spirit and a passion for working with individuals from varied backgrounds in a global context.

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience working in a centralised data team
  • Experience with media mix models and/or attribution models
  • Previous experience with dbt, Snowflake, Sigma
  • Contributions to the open-source data science community
  • It's not required to have experience working remotely, but considered as a plus

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to understand their needs and identify opportunities for data science to drive value.
  • Design and develop a wide range of custom-built solutions, including LLMs (we have plenty use cases here!), predictive models forecasting key business metrics, developing recommendation systems (e.g: customer segmentation, marketing campaigns, etc), running causal inferences, and more.
  • Design operating models that leverage AI (incl. Cortex) by integrating automation and predictive insights into our business processes.
  • Work closely with the Data Engineering team in the creation of scalable ML pipelines.
  • Establish best practices for data collection, storage, processing, analysis and model deployment.
  • Design and implement change management strategies to facilitate the adoption of advanced data practices.
  • Contribute to building Remote’s data science culture and processes as we continue to scale. This includes knowledge exchange on use cases & best practices fostering a collaborative environment that promotes learning and innovation.

Practicals

  • You'll report to: Data Analytics Manager
  • Team: Data, Engineering
  • Location: For this position we welcome everyone to apply
  • Start date: As soon as possible

Remote Compensation Philosophy

Remote's Total Rewards philosophy is to ensure fair, unbiased compensation and fair equity pay along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate. We do not agree to or encourage cheap-labor practices and therefore we ensure to pay above in-location rates. We hope to inspire other companies to support global talent-hiring and bring local wealth to developing countries.

At first glance our salary bands seem quite wide - here is some context. At Remote we have international operations and a globally distributed workforce. We use geo ranges to consider geographic pay differentials as part of our global compensation strategy to remain competitive in various markets while we hiring globally.

The base salary range for this full-time position is USD 58,950 to USD 132,700. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.

At Remote, we foster internal mobility as a key element of our culture of employee growth and development, supported by a compensation philosophy that guarantees pay equity and fairness. Therefore, all compensation changes associated with an internal move will be reviewed by the Total Rewards & People Enablement team on a case by case basis.
