Alex Mwaura
@alexmwaura
I am a startup expert scaling electric-mobility ventures across Africa to drive socio-economic impact.
What I'm looking for
I am passionate about driving socio-economic impact through innovation, particularly with an Afrocentric focus, and I am an avid electric mobility enthusiast. I have a proven track record building, staffing, and scaling startups from the ground up.
As Country Manager for Kenya & Uganda at Moove, I led East African operations and a cross-functional team of 35, managed the region's P&L, and oversaw a fleet including 120 motorcycles and multiple trucks. I generated $70M in revenue in my first year, achieved a 96% collection rate, and delivered an 86% KPI achievement rate in Q4 2023 while maintaining a 94% driver retention rate.
As a founding executive and Chief Operations Officer at BasiGo & Quickbus, I introduced Kenya's first electric buses, managed supply chain and vehicle production, established charging infrastructure, and delivered a digital ticketing solution. I supported fundraising, product introduction, and multi-country operational rollouts across KE, UG, TZ, NG, ANG, and ZAM.
I have also led growth and product launches at Little App and established Bolt in Kenya, overtaking a major competitor within 1.5 years and scaling teams and operations across multiple markets. I apply PMBOK principles, leverage tools like Quicksight for operations metrics, and enjoy solving complex economic, social, and environmental challenges in high-growth settings.
