The story of Boundless began with a classic entrepreneurial spark: a personal pain point that revealed a larger, unmet need. In 2015, Emily Castles, then a software development consultant in Dublin, Ireland, had a desire to work remotely from France for a ski season. Her then-employer declined, but this didn't deter Emily. She approached one of her clients, Bizimply, a workforce management platform that had been interested in hiring her. Emily proposed joining them if they would allow her to work from France and accommodate a four-day work week. Bizimply agreed, and the challenge of making this international remote work arrangement compliant fell to Dee Coakley, Bizimply's Chief Operating Officer. As Dee navigated the complexities of international employment law, payroll, and HR for just one employee, the 'nightmare' of the process, as she recalled, illuminated a significant business opportunity. It became clear that many companies faced similar hurdles as remote and distributed teams became more common.

Recognizing this gap in the market, Dee Coakley and Emily Castles joined forces. In 2019, they co-founded Boundless with a clear mission: to empower companies to build global teams by simplifying the complexities of international employment. They envisioned a platform that would automate and manage the intricacies of payroll, benefits, and tax compliance across multiple countries, tasks that traditionally required extensive legal and accounting resources. The timing of Boundless's launch proved to be prescient. As the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the shift towards remote work in the spring of 2020, the demand for solutions like Boundless surged. Companies worldwide were suddenly grappling with the compliance challenges of a distributed workforce, and Boundless was ready with a platform designed to address these very issues. Their software enables businesses to legally employ talent anywhere, ensuring adherence to local labor laws and regulations, thereby allowing companies to focus on growth and talent acquisition without being bogged down by administrative and legal complexities. Boundless has since grown, supporting employment in numerous countries and helping a diverse range of companies, particularly in the tech sector, to seamlessly manage their international teams.
