As a Technical Support Engineer, you will be joining the Data Operations team which are made up of a team of Python developers who ensure data is delivered to our customers on time with the proper quality levels.

Your main responsibility within this team will be to explore error alerts and identify customer issues. Using your knowledge of Python, you will investigate code and communicate with the development team to ensure the customer issue is resolved. This is a unique opportunity if you are experienced in a customer support role and are interested in progressing your career in a development environment.

Requirements

Requirements:

    • Proficiency in Python, or demonstrated expertise in another programming language with a readiness to rapidly adapt to Python.
    • Comfort in reviewing and understanding Python code developed by others.
    • A foundational understanding of web programming technologies, including HTML, CSS, XPATH, JavaScript, REST, JSON, MySQL, etc.
    • Familiarity with version control tools such as Git, GitHub, and Bitbucket.
    • Experience in scripting interactions with web APIs, including GET, PUT, PULL, POST, etc.
    • Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to simplify complex technical issues for diverse audiences.
    • Keen attention to detail and the ability to trace errors back to their root causes.
    • A collaborative spirit, excellent analytical skills, and strong technical writing capabilities.
    • Self-motivation and superior organizational skills, as our remote work environment emphasizes autonomy over micromanagement.
    • Availability to commit to a full-time schedule within the designated time zone.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • As part of the technical support team, your main duties will include:
    • Proactively monitoring and identifying issues in web scrapers using our advanced monitoring systems.
    • Analyzing error messages to assess the urgency of issues, necessitating a solid grasp of Python.
    • Promptly escalating complex problems to the development team by initiating support requests.
    • Communicating detected issues to clients via email, ensuring transparency and responsiveness.
  • In addition to support tasks, you will occasionally engage in programming activities, such as:
    • Developing and refining automation scripts in Python to enhance internal tools.
    • Crafting and updating monitoring code to bolster the performance of our web scrapers.

Bonus points for:

  • While not mandatory, the following attributes will enhance your candidacy:
    • Familiarity with Scrapy & Spidermon.
    • Prior customer service experience.
    • Experience in remote work environments.
    • Acquaintance with tools like JIRA, Teamwork, Scrapy Cloud, Sentry, and Freshdesk.
  • Proficient English
