At my last company I went from a floor associate to a Transportation Operations Manager in under 9 years based on my work ethic and showing that I can take on new roles with a bit of training. I had the highest number of direct reports (45 while others had 5-10) in my department at one time and managed to maintain the top 25% rating for Safety and Engagement among my peers. My associates would go an average of 8 months to a year without any recordable safety incidents or injuries thanks to my transparent approach to why safety guidelines are in place, instead of telling them to “do it because its your job.”

I am interested in learning new skills and dedicating myself to learning new company practices and procedures. What I lack in formal education, I make up for in flexibility and determination to fully integrate myself with the systems a company uses. I don’t just learn my department. I am not afraid to ask questions and use resources available to make sure that I am useful to every department in a facility. I believe that staying focused on one department can be detrimental to work flow and advancement, as all departments effect one another. It is important to be an expert in one’s own department, and crucial to have some knowledge of every department to make a work place stronger.
