At the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), I study what happens when wind and hail meet the places we live and work—and how buildings can better withstand severe weather. My work focuses on hail and roofing performance.
I’ve contributed to IBHS hail field research and ICECHIP, a collaborative effort to better understand hailstorms and the hailstones they produce. I combine field research, full-scale laboratory testing, and damage analysis.
At IBHS, I develop project scopes and test plans, collaborate with production staff on experimental testing, and analyze results to generate reports. My projects examine hazards including hail impacts, wind loads or uplift, and wildfire embers.
I’m especially interested in how repeated weather exposure affects building materials over time and how cumulative damage can shape performance in future storms. The best part of my work is finding ways to make research useful to people deciding how homes and buildings are built, maintained, and protected.
