Alison Young

Currently, I am a full-time science teacher for Grade 4-7, managing multiple priorities while maintaining a successful family tourism business. I design outcome-based content, materials, and resources in accordance with the syllabus, assess and track learners' progress, and am responsible for full administration of all learners.

As Co-owner, Tour Operator, and Senior Reservationist, I build, create, and design travel packages for international guests for our bespoke safari company. I set Rack & STO rates accordingly, collaborate with local lodges and other tourism travel providers, and manage bookings using Nightsbridge and Excel.

I owned and managed a bush lodge for three years, handling front-of-house operations, reservations, and guiding. I successfully rebranded the lodge under a new name and developed its online presence, contributing to a positive web footprint.

As a Course Manager and Animal Science Lecturer, I managed and tutored a course for 100 learners. I designed outcome-based content, materials, and resources in accordance with the syllabus, and assessed and tracked learners' progress.

I worked for eight years as a Senior Animal Trainer and Presenter, responsible for marine mammal training and educational presentations. I also contributed to breeding projects and delivered engaging educational content to the public.

For two years, I worked as an Animal Keeper, caring for a large variety of exotic species. My responsibilities included daily animal husbandry, maintaining enclosures, and assisting with educational programs.

Obtained a Certificate in Education at Level 6 NQF in South Africa. This qualification supported my role as a full-time science teacher, managing multiple priorities and designing outcome-based content.

Grade: Level 6 NQF

Completed a Foundation Degree in Animal Behaviour & Applied Science, achieving Level 6 NQF in South Africa. This academic background complemented practical experience in animal management and conservation.

Grade: L4

Earned a National Certificate in Zoo Animal Management at Level 4. This certification provided specialized knowledge in the care and management of zoo animals, supporting roles in marine mammal training and zoo keeping.
