Olio

Olio is a free food and money-saving app designed to help people make their budget go further while reducing waste at the same time. The app connects anyone with spare food–households or local businesses–with neighbours living nearby who would like it. From surplus supermarket food to everyday household items like furniture, clothes, books, toys and toiletries, Olio makes it easy to give things a second life instead of throwing them away. By choosing to use what’s already available nearby instead of buying new, users help tackle overconsumption and reduce their environmental impact.

Founded in 2015 by Tessa Clarke and Saasha Celestial-One after a lightbulb moment while moving house, Olio has grown from a food sharing app in a few North London postcodes to a global movement with over 9 million users across 62 countries. The company’s Food Waste Heroes Programme enables volunteers to collect surplus food from over 4,500 business locations, redistributing it to local communities. Olio’s mission is to end waste to solve the climate crisis, with the bold ambition to reach 1 billion users by 2030. The United Nations has highlighted Olio as a beacon for the world, and Vivatech awarded the company Next European Unicorn.
