Leonel Castro

At Star Médica, I built the national Academic Affairs and Institutional Partnerships function across 17 hospitals in 11 Mexican states. I lead undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education while establishing governance, SOPs, academic agreements, and clinical training operations.

I oversee academic programs for 90+ medical interns and 70+ residents, coordinate 80 annual specialist-led learning sessions, and expanded institutional partnerships from one to 17 formal agreements. I also lead the academic and regulatory process for a new Orthopedics residency.

Previously, at Universidad Anáhuac México, I led two-campus Basic Medical Sciences operations for up to 1,050 students, 170 faculty members, and six academic coordinators. I improved retention by 25%, exceeded recruitment targets for two consecutive years, led OSCE delivery for 197 students, and developed more than 20 SOPs to standardize academic operations.

I'm a physician with a Master's in Healthcare Institutional Management and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Management. My work combines instructional design, faculty development, Canvas, Brightspace, Oracle Banner, AI-enabled learning, digital health product development, and data-informed academic decision-making.
