Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • You will be responsible for designing and delivering priority features by working with the key stakeholders, including PMs, architects, other team members, and across geographic locations.
  • You will be expected to produce software design and corresponding code with the highest quality. You are an active contributor to a large volume of code, design wikis, code reviews. These designs and code must meet VMware and industry quality standards.
  • Our team firmly believes in “Dev Owns Quality”, and we expect to release our products with near-zero defects and no regressions. You will deliver automated tests and documentation to support the implementations of new features and functionalities and help solve any customer issues in the product.
  • We operate as one team across the globe, and as such, everyone owns every aspect of the product, from developing new capabilities to supporting customer issues.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

As a technology leader, you will:

  • Work with the engineering teams and product management to review and refine delivery requirements.
  • Work closely with other cross-functional leads and specialists across the product teams, own end-to-end deliverables.
  • Write technical design documents and hold reviews.
  • Perform Work breakdown and plan execution in Jira for large features.
  • Design and develop highly efficient code ensuring scalability, performance, security, and quality.
  • Develop and maintain software that delivers on the team’s objectives primarily in Java-based microservices.
  • Drive and embody the “Dev Owns Quality” culture.
  • Deploy microservices using Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) systems.
  • Provide technical leadership to the feature team. Lead design and code reviews.
  • Focus on the products' architectural goals, ability to take an open-ended problem, architect and design an elegant and comprehensible solution.
  • Participate in our on-call rotation, providing operational support to our platform.
  • Participate in all team agile ceremonies.

Additional Internal Notes

Required Skills:

  • 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in Security / Enterprise software development using Java.
  • 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience building large-scale distributed systems.
  • Track record of architecting, designing reusable, high-performing and scalable systems.
  • Experience with and solid understanding of SQL or NO-SQL datastores.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A high degree of “ownership” - the ability to determine what needs to be done and make it happen.
  • Passion for collaborative development and support of quality hosted software services
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent technical training

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience developing microservices.
  • Experience with the Spring Framework
  • Experience deploying a global service in AWS.
  • Experience with big data technologies.
  • Experience working on live enterprise-grade scale services in the cloud.
  • Understanding of deployment issues in a complex environment (security, networking, load balancers, service dependencies, disaster recovery, etc.)
  • Security and compliance consciousness
  • Experience with asynchronous programming.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture (EDA) and publish/subscribe (pub/sub) messaging pattern.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery practices and tools.
