The University of Utah, often referred to as the U, is a public research university located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Established on February 28, 1850, as the University of Deseret, it is the state's oldest institution of higher education and its flagship university. The institution adopted its current name in 1892, four years before Utah achieved statehood. Situated on a 1,534-acre campus on the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley, the university is close to the Wasatch Range and downtown Salt Lake City, offering a unique blend of urban and natural environments.
