Overview

The Terraform Provider Ecosystem is the backbone of Infrastructure as Code, enabling users to manage resources across hundreds of services. At the core of this ecosystem are the major cloud providers: AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. These providers are the bridge between Terraform's declarative language and the vast, ever-evolving services offered by the world's leading clouds.

We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Product Manager to own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for our foundational AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Providers. This is a unique opportunity to shape the core user experience for the vast majority of Terraform users. You will be at the center of the action, working directly with the world’s leading cloud platforms, our Partner team, and dedicated engineering teams to define the future of cloud infrastructure management.

Responsibilities

  • Ecosystem Strategy & Roadmap: Develop and communicate a unified product strategy and cohesive roadmap for the AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud providers, ensuring alignment with the broader HashiCorp Terraform vision.
  • Roadmap Prioritization & Delivery: Lead the planning and prioritization process for three engineering teams. You will manage a complex backlog of feature requests from partners, community contributions, bug fixes, support escalations, and internal strategic initiatives to deliver maximum impact to our users.
  • Partner Relationship Management: Serve as the primary product contact for our strategic cloud partners (AWS, Azure, Google). You will partner closely with our Partner Alliances team to manage relationships, align on joint roadmaps, and ensure timely support for new and updated cloud services.
  • Cross-Provider Cohesion & Collaboration: Identify and solve for inefficiencies across the provider teams. You will champion initiatives to increase automation, create shared tooling, and standardize practices to improve development velocity and product consistency.
  • Terraform Core Partnership: Forge a deep partnership with the Terraform Core product and engineering teams. You will be the voice of the providers, ensuring that new language features and platform capabilities are seamlessly adopted and provide a world-class user experience.
  • Customer and Community Advocacy: Engage directly with our vibrant open-source community and enterprise customers to gather feedback, understand critical pain points, and champion their needs throughout the product development lifecycle.

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of product management experience, ideally with developer tools, Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), or platform products.
  • Deep domain expertise in at least one of the major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and a strong technical understanding of the others.
  • Demonstrable experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and tools; direct experience with Terraform is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage complex external partner relationships and navigate competing priorities from multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and prioritization skills, with experience making difficult trade-off decisions to drive the product forward.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate between highly technical engineering teams and business-focused partners.
  • Experience working with and nurturing open-source software communities is a strong plus.

Attributes We Look For in Product Managers at HashiCorp

  • Humility: You listen to understand and collaborate effectively, recognizing the importance of community and teamwork.
  • Curiosity: You’re constantly exploring new ways to improve workflows and deliver value to both open-source users and enterprise customers.
  • Ownership: You take responsibility for driving product success, balancing immediate needs with long-term strategic vision.
  • Clear Communication: You have the ability to explain complex ideas simply and effectively, ensuring alignment across teams and stakeholders.
  • Reflective: You embrace feedback and seek continuous improvement in your work and the products you manage.

Why Terraform Providers?

The Terraform Providers are where the declarative power of Terraform meets the vast capabilities of the cloud. In this role, you are not just managing a product; you are stewarding the central pillar of the Terraform ecosystem. You will build deep relationships with the largest technology companies in the world, guide three talented engineering teams, and have a direct, tangible impact on how millions of developers and operators build, manage, and scale their infrastructure.

If you are passionate about building bridges between ecosystems, solving complex multi-faceted problems at scale, and working at the intersection of open source, enterprise software, and cloud infrastructure, this is the opportunity for you.

HashiCorp was founded by Mitchell Hashimoto and Armon Dadgar in 2012 with the goal of revolutionizing datacenter management: application development, delivery, and maintenance.

The datacenter of today is very different than the datacenter of yesterday, and we think the datacenter of tomorrow is just around the corner. We're writing software to take you all the way from yesterday to today, and then safely to tomorrow and beyond.

Physical, virtual, containers. Private cloud, public cloud, hybrid cloud. IaaS, PaaS, SaaS. Windows, Linux, Mac. These are just some of the choices faced when architecting a datacenter of today. And the choice is not one or the other; instead, it is often a combination of many of these.

HashiCorp builds tools to ease these decisions by presenting solutions that span the gaps. Our tools manage both physical machines and virtual machines, Windows, and Linux, SaaS and IaaS, etc. And we're committed to supporting next-generation technologies, as well.

HashiCorp was founded and continues to be run by the primary authors of all our core technologies powering thousands of companies worldwide. We speak at conferences and write books related to application and infrastructure management.

All our foundational technologies are open source and developed openly, and have been since 2010.

The Tao of HashiCorp is the foundation that guides our vision, roadmap, and product design. As you evaluate using or contributing to HashiCorp's products, it may be valuable to understand the motivations and intentions for our work.
