Job Description

We are seeking a content writer with a strong background in the financial services industry, specifically within the accounting and tax field, for our client. The ideal candidate will possess resourcefulness and independence, demonstrating an ability to identify and curate relevant topics for the client’s contacts and clients, based on an accurate understanding of the client’s business.

The candidate will collaborate with the client’s web agency to produce and lead the creation of SEO-focused, evergreen/lead generation content pieces. You should also be adept at writing thought leadership pieces as needed. You should also have a thorough understanding of SEO best practices and experience writing for the financial services industry, specifically and preferably, accounting and tax.

This is a contract position for 10 hours per week for 6 months.

Objectives of this Role

The client wants to start creating more evergreen/SEO/lead-gen content, leaving space for the client to tackle IRS update topics and non-industry-specific topics internally.

The client aims to be known as the first source of content people go to for their industry insights, news, financial service advice, and guidance

Responsibilities

  • Write finance-related content, especially in the accounting and tax industry
  • Quickly adapt to and understand who the client is at their core, as this will guide and shape the content that the client pushes out to our audience.
  • Independently steer and champion the client’s blog efforts, demonstrating resourcefulness and initiative.
  • Conduct thorough research on industry trends, regulations, and news.
  • Write well-researched, keyword-driven content to optimize organic traffic and improve search engine rankings.
  • Have proficiency in SEO best practices and keyword research, with the ability to provide and identify keywords, meta descriptions, and social captions for corresponding articles.
  • Meet deadlines consistently and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Create at least 6-8 blogs per month, including: (1) Optimized, evergreen articles that are industry and service-related. (2) Content that the client can be the original source for. Examples include: how to prepare your business to sell, the state of DEI in business today, and CEO roundtable topics (a resource for CEO news — a place for them to use as a sounding board, support group)

Skills and qualifications

  • Finance Writing Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience writing for financial services, preferably with a focus on the accounting and tax industry.
  • Excellent Writing Skills: Exceptional writing abilities and the skill to adapt tone and style to match our brand and audience, with impeccable grammar and attention to detail. Proficiency in writing thought leadership pieces.
  • Research Proficiency: Strong familiarity with relevant news topics and developments in the financial services, accounting, and tax sectors. Strong research skills, with the capability to distill complex concepts into clear, engaging content.
  • SEO Knowledge: Experience collaborating with web agencies to produce SEO-focused, evergreen content.
  • Deadlines and Availability: Can pivot and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. Ability to meet in Eastern Time Zone hours.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in the accounting or tax industry
  • Relevant writing samples
