Clearstory is seeking a senior software developer in the Philippines to help build a world-class engineering team. While reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, you will build out a new software category within the massive trillion dollar commercial construction industry. We have a hands-on culture and expect the same of our developers. You will work on teams with members from the US and India, and have at least 6 hours of overlap with our 9-5 US/Pacific time day. (12 AM - 8 AM Philippines time)

What you’ll do

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver Valuable Software: Working with the Product team, developers and QA team members, regularly deliver software that enhances the way our customers track extra work. Identify technical and product opportunities, refine requirements, write and test changes that deliver value, and own them through the release process and into production.
  • Ensure a High Quality Experience: Test your code from the customer’s perspective using a common set of tools and flows that quickly confirm that our work delivers a great user experience at scale.
  • Improve the Product: Work with all layers of our stack to deliver a quality, performant experience.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation: Along with working software, deliver diagrams, designs and documents which reflect your thinking and serve as a reference for other developers to understand what we did and why – including the version of yourself from 6 months in the future.
  • Leave Code Better than You Found It: Work within the team to keep the code clean through refactoring and use of common tools so that the next person in that code will have an easier time of it.

The team you would join is working on projects such as:

  • Building new integrations to relieve customers' time-consuming need to double-enter data
  • Removing the need to add error-prone and inefficient cost data by leveraging industry-standard codes
  • Training classifiers which suggest and learn new cost categories to improve in-platform analytics and reporting
  • Refactoring and tuning an existing code base which has found product-market fit to scale to match the size of our customer base


Requirements

What you’ll need:

  • 4+ years of software development experience, preferably in a startup environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with Node or Golang
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience writing front ends with React 16 or above
  • Proven track record delivering tuned SQL queries and optimized data store use
  • Experience breaking down complex problems and working out clever solutions in a team

Our Story

In 2018, our founder, Cameron Page, reached a breaking point. After studying construction management at Cal Poly and over a decade into his career in commercial construction, the frustration caused by the disorganized and convoluted Change Order process that plagued the industry finally boiled over.

While working for the largest General Contractor in Silicon Valley, at the epicenter of innovation, it was astonishing that managing project Change Order risk still hinged on a series of manual, time-consuming, and paper-based processes ripe for error. Endless hours were spent requesting and organizing disparate Change Order logs from Trade Partners, disseminating countless design changes via email, grappling with the unknown number of triplicate carbon copy T&M Tickets signed by his superintendent, and hunting down Change Order Review correspondence. They had all the industry standard project and financial management software, so why was it nearly impossible to understand their risk exposure in real time?

This led to the realization of “The Change Order Gap”—the structural gap between all stakeholder's financial systems, where companies struggled to align on what was outstanding.

From this, Clearstory was born.

Early on, we recognized that to solve the Change Order Gap truly, you need to build a business network architecture software that allows companies to share Change Orders between companies. This way, all stakeholders, regardless of size, company type, or internal financial software, could use Clearstory to communicate upstream and downstream and solve the Change Order Gap together.
