Our Science & Insights Division is currently seeking to appoint a Remote Sensing Scientist (High-Performance Computing) to join the Remote Sensing and Regulatory Mapping team.

This role supports the processing and analysis of satellite and aerial imagery within a high-performance Linux computing environment to deliver remote sensing products that inform environmental decision-making.

You’ll contribute to the development and maintenance of code and data workflows, manage large and complex spatial datasets, and support environmental monitoring and assessment projects across NSW. The role also involves preparing technical reports and providing scientific advice to a range of stakeholders, ensuring high standards of data quality, rigour and communication.

This is a great opportunity to apply your technical skills in remote sensing and spatial science to programs that directly support environmental regulation, conservation and land management outcomes. You’ll work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed team committed to open science, innovation and impact.

About You

We are seeking a remote sensing or spatial science professional with hands-on experience in high-performance computing and scripting languages such as Python or Bash.

You are confident working with remote sensing or GIS software and have a solid understanding of managing large or complex spatial datasets. You bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate technical information clearly.

You will bring:

  • Experience working on a high-performance computing system using Bash, Python or similar languages
  • Proficiency with remote sensing and/or GIS software and spatial data tools
  • Knowledge of spatial databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS is highly regarded
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate day-to-day technical project activities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and reports
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in geographically dispersed teams

Essential Requirements

  • A degree in Science or other relevant discipline.
