Analytics Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

Semantic Layer & Metrics:

• Develop comprehensive LookML models that abstract Gold layer complexity into business-friendly metrics
• Create reusable, governed KPI definitions with consistent business logic and calculations
• Implement data quality rules and validation checks for business-critical metrics
• Design aggregate awareness and performance optimization patterns in LookML
• Document metric definitions, calculation logic, and data lineage for business stakeholders
• Establish a metrics catalog with clear ownership and SLA definitions

Consumption & Presentation:

• Build interactive dashboards and explores in Looker consuming Gold layer BigQuery datasets
• Design RESTful APIs using Cloud Functions or API Gateway for programmatic data access
• Implement embedded analytics solutions and white-label BI capabilities where needed
• Create self-service analytics capabilities for business users with appropriate guardrails
• Develop row-level security and dynamic data masking within Looker based on user roles
• Partner with ML teams to expose Gold layer features through Vertex AI for advanced analytics

Data Governance & Quality:

• Monitor data freshness, completeness, and accuracy of Gold layer datasets
• Create alerting mechanisms for KPI anomalies and data quality issues
• Establish feedback loops between consumption layer insights and upstream data quality improvements
• Document business glossary, data dictionary, and metric definitions

Required Skills:

• 4+ years experience with Looker development, LookML, and semantic layer design
• Strong SQL skills with BigQuery experience and query optimization
• Deep understanding of dimensional modeling consumed by BI tools (star schema, conformed dimensions)
• Experience building RESTful APIs for data consumption (Python/Flask, Cloud Functions, API Gateway)
• Knowledge of BI best practices, dashboard design principles, and data visualization
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical data models and metrics
• Experience implementing role-based access control and data security in BI platforms

Preferred Qualifications:

• Looker Developer or LookML Developer certification
• Experience with dbt Cloud metrics layer or similar semantic layer technologies
• Familiarity with Vertex AI and exposing analytics features for ML consumption
• Background in healthcare KPIs, clinical quality measures, or population health metrics
• Knowledge of Google Cloud Data Catalog and metadata management
• Experience with embedded analytics frameworks and API-driven consumption patterns
• Understanding of data contracts and SLA management for analytics products
