About Stacker
We founded Stacker in August 2017 with a simple, yet powerful vision: to build a platform that connects the world's publishers with engaging, data-driven stories. In the beginning, we were a small team publishing stories ourselves, transforming publicly available data into compelling and digestible coverage for readers. Our storytelling quickly expanded across a wide range of topics, including news, business, entertainment, lifestyle, weather, and sports. We delved into over 200 different data sources, from the CDC and NOAA to TripAdvisor and Zillow, to uncover the narratives hidden within the numbers. This dedication to quality, data-backed content allowed our network of publishers to grow rapidly, soon including major local news organizations like Hearst, Tribune, and Lee Enterprises.
As our publisher network flourished, reaching over 1,000 news partners after we made our newswire platform freely available in April 2020, our focus evolved. We saw a massive opportunity to not just create content, but to empower other storytellers. This led to the launch of Stacker Studio in 2020, a content studio that partners with brands to create and distribute newsworthy stories. This model subsidizes our newsroom, allowing us to provide high-quality journalism to publishers at no cost. We've continued to innovate, launching Story Hub in 2021, a searchable library of thousands of evergreen features, and Stacker Local in 2022, which turns our data storytelling into localized series for every state and hundreds of cities. In 2023, we introduced Stacker Connect, a content syndication product that further leverages our platform and distribution capabilities. We are a bootstrapped, virtual-first company, built on a culture of trust, ownership, and collaboration, and we're passionately committed to building a more exciting and sustainable future for the media landscape.
