ABOUT MONEYSENSE

MoneySense is one of Canada's most trusted personal finance brands — award-winning, editorially independent, and relied on by millions of Canadians navigating financial milestones that matter most. We've been a fixture of Canadian financial life for over 25 years, and we remain as relevant and necessary as ever.

Since our acquisition by Ratehub Inc. in 2018, MoneySense has maintained full editorial independence while gaining the backing of a leading Canadian fintech. MoneySense provides the independent insight and expert context Canadians need to make smart financial decisions, while Ratehub provides the platform to act on them. Together, we help Canadians at every stage of their financial journey: Spend, Save, Borrow, Invest, and Protect.

We're at a pivotal moment for the brand. Readers are changing how they consume content, and AI is changing how they find it. In that world, the value of a human-led, trusted brand has never been higher, and there's a growing appetite for financial journalism that goes deeper than a quick answer. MoneySense has the editorial heritage, the data assets, and the fintech infrastructure to lead that evolution.

THE ROLE

As Managing Editor, you will own MoneySense's editorial output end-to-end, from strategy and planning to execution and performance. Reporting to the GM of Memberships, you will work at the intersection of editorial, product, and engineering to build a content engine that is credible, data-driven, and built for the modern Canadian reader. This is a foundational leadership role. You are the architect who will shape how MoneySense looks, speaks, and performs in its next chapter, by bridging the craft of journalism with the rigour of a data-driven product organisation.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Editorial Leadership & Strategy

  • Own the end-to-end editorial process, ensuring every piece of content meets MoneySense’s high standards for accuracy, independence, and authority.
  • Rethink the editorial calendar to reflect shifts in consumer behavior, prioritizing high-value, expert-led content that goes beyond simple search queries.
  • Recruit, brief, and manage a roster of freelance contributors and vetted financial professionals (CFPs, tax experts, etc.) for quotes, columns, and the "Ask MoneySense" franchise.

Authoritative & Original Reporting

  • Assign and edit content optimized for both traditional search (SEO) and generative engines (GEO), prioritizing proprietary data, original reporting, and expert insight that AI cannot replicate.
  • Produce data-led stories by combining Canadian public datasets (StatsCan, CMHC, Bank of Canada) with Ratehub’s proprietary data to generate unique financial insights.
  • Lead reactive coverage for major financial events (e.g., Bank of Canada rate decisions), ensuring expert-led analysis is published and distributed within hours of an announcement.
  • Develop reporting formats that feature real Canadians and expert commentary (e.g., financial profiles and annotated case studies) that go deeper than anything AI can generate.

Performance & Optimization

  • Manage the update cycle for "Best of" guides and cornerstone content to ensure they remain accurate, competitive, and relevant for readers.
  • Monitor performance metrics across Google Analytics, SEMrush, and other tools to identify shifts in how readers discover and interact with our content.
  • Use data insights to optimize content, improving discoverability and the reader journey from first touchpoint to financial decision.
  • Guide social media and newsletter distribution strategies, ensuring content is packaged effectively to drive audience retention and direct engagement.
  • Oversee digital publishing workflows to ensure content is formatted and distributed in adherence to brand standards across all platforms.

Collaboration

  • Work with product and engineering on interactive tools and content experiences that create reasons to visit and return to MoneySense.ca.
  • Collaborate with sales on branded content and sponsorship packages while maintaining editorial independence.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in digital journalism or editorial publishing, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior editorial role.
  • Deep knowledge of the Canadian personal finance landscape, including mortgages, investing, taxes, and banking.
  • Proven ability to lead a content operation end-to-end, from initial strategy and commissioning to editing, publishing, and performance analysis.
  • A track record of managing freelancers and subject-matter experts
  • Expertise in SEO and a working knowledge of GEO, with the ability to turn search and generative engine data into an actionable editorial plan.
  • Experience with newsletter platforms and audience engagement strategies designed to build direct reader relationships.
  • Experience with data-led storytelling, including the ability to interpret public datasets (like StatsCan or CMHC) and translate them into reader-friendly insights.
  • Exceptional editing skills, with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and maintaining a consistent brand voice across a large volume of content.
  • Proficiency with the modern editorial stack, specifically WordPress (or similar CMS), SEMrush (or similar SEO tools), and Google Analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional financial designations (e.g., CFP, QAFP, or CSC) or a deep background in financial services.
  • Experience with AI-aided workflow tools and a practical understanding of how to use them to improve editorial efficiency and research.

CULTURE FIT:

  • Members first - we prioritise the interests and needs of our members above all else.We solve member pain points and focus on member satisfaction. We start with members, and end with the P&L.

We exist to ensure Canadians are informed so they make better financial choices.

Over the past decade, we have helped millions of Canadians make smarter financial decisions by providing the best tools, advice and rates in the market.

With roots as an early innovator in the online mortgage world, Ratehub.ca became the first comparison service to integrate an in-house mortgage brokerage (the award-winning Ratehub.ca mortgage brokerage, formerly known as CanWise Financial). Since then, we’ve continued to grow with the addition of auto & home insurance quoting, credit card comparison, GIC & chequing account applications and much more.

How does Ratehub.ca make money?

Our core belief is that it should be easier for all Canadians to choose better personal finance. Access to better financial tools, education and product comparisons should be a right for everyone, not just the privileged few.

So, how do we make money? If Ratehub.ca has a relationship with a financial provider, we receive compensation when our users connect or apply for the products offered on our website. It’s important to note that many of the products we list on our website are not monetized, but we aim to give you a representation of the market. We also own and operate our in-house, award-winning Ratehub.ca mortgage brokerage (formerly known as CanWise Financial), and are compensated for mortgages funded through the brokerage.

Any products we receive compensation for are labelled either ‘featured,’ ‘sponsored’ or ‘promoted’ and they will always be clearly identified.
