Scope

The Technical Writer is an embedded documentation professional within Newfire Global Partners, primarily supporting Care Lumen’s Platform Engineering organization. This role plays a critical part in maturing and scaling platform engineering capabilities by creating clear, structured, and standardized technical documentation that supports developer productivity, operational excellence, and platform adoption.
While the primary focus is Platform Engineering (DevOps, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, developer tooling, internal platforms, service catalogs, etc.), this individual will also partner across the broader IT organization to ensure documentation consistency, governance, and usability standards are established and maintained enterprise-wide.
In addition to documentation development, this role will serve as a documentation systems steward—supporting the management, structure, and optimization of Notion as the centralized knowledge platform for IT. The Technical Writer will help define documentation standards, templates, taxonomy, navigation, and governance practices to ensure clarity, discoverability, and long-term maintainability across all IT documentation.
You are a clear and precise writer with a strong interest in platform engineering, DevOps, and cloud systems, with the ability to transform complex distributed systems into structured, developer-friendly documentation.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary documentation partner for the Platform Engineering organization (DevOps, SRE, Infrastructure, CI/CD, Cloud, Internal Developer Platforms).
  • Research, write, and maintain technical documentation for APIs, platform systems, infrastructure components, and developer tools.
  • Document platform capabilities, service catalogs, golden paths, CI/CD templates, infrastructure standards, and internal developer workflows.
  • Create and update runbooks, standard operating procedures, and operational guides for platform engineering teams.
  • Develop and maintain developer onboarding guides, integration documentation, and technical FAQs.
  • Own and manage the structure of the IT Notion workspace, ensuring documentation is organized, discoverable, and standardized.
  • Create and maintain documentation templates, style guides, taxonomies, and governance practices for all engineering teams.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and versioned in alignment with product and platform releases.
  • Work within a docs-as-code workflow, managing documentation in Git-based repositories.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and manage documentation tasks within sprint cycles.
  • Review and edit technical content produced by subject matter experts for clarity, consistency, and completeness.
  • Proactively identify documentation gaps and establish documentation KPIs (adoption, completeness, freshness).

What’s Required

  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing for software engineering or technology products.
  • Experience documenting platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure systems.
  • Experience documenting APIs (REST, GraphQL) using tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI, Redoc, or Postman.
  • Proficiency with documentation management tools (Notion, Confluence, ReadTheDocs, MkDocs).
  • Experience structuring and managing enterprise knowledge systems at scale.
  • Familiarity with docs-as-code workflows and version control using Git.
  • Strong research and interview skills to gather technical information from subject matter experts.
  • Excellent written English communication skills.
  • Experience working with engineering teams in an Agile delivery environment.

What’s Preferred

  • Background in healthcare IT or clinical platform documentation.
  • Experience supporting Platform Engineering or Internal Developer Platform (IDP) teams.
  • Experience documenting DevOps tooling, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Experience designing knowledge architecture in Notion or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with Markdown, AsciiDoc, or structured authoring frameworks.
  • Exposure to developer experience frameworks or Team Topologies concepts.
