Engineering Manager, Internal Tools

Alma is seeking a mission driven Engineering Manager to lead our Internal Tools team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the technical execution and team leadership behind scalable, tech enabled solutions that empower our operations teams and ensure service excellence as Alma grows. You'll manage and mentor a cross functional engineering team, partnering closely with product and operations to identify high impact opportunities, deliver robust internal tooling, and continuously improve workflows that support the provider experience.

What you’ll do:

  • Grow and develop an incredible team of hardworking, collaborative, and motivated engineers who have high expectations around individual ownership and impact.
  • Set direction for the team, anticipating strategic and company scaling challenges via thoughtful long term planning.
  • Partner with product managers, designers, operations, and other stakeholders to ensure your team is prioritizing and delivering value to Alma members and internal teams.
  • Build scalable internal platforms and tools that drive operational efficiency, reduce manual work, and support Alma’s growth at scale.
  • Engage in the end to end recruiting process, hiring, and onboarding engineering talent to help grow the team.
  • Mentor engineers on technical design, clean architecture, and sustainable development practices that support rapid iteration while maintaining quality.
  • Collaborate with the broader Product and Engineering teams to help craft technical and product strategy.

Who you are:

  • You have 5+ years of engineering experience, with 2+ years of people management.
  • You’ve previously managed a team of 3 or more engineers.
  • You are a mentor to individual contributors of different seniority levels and expertise.
  • You are willing to jump into the code to understand, contribute and/or troubleshoot technical issues.
  • You possess a clear and engaging communication style with a track record of building positive relationships across a broad diverse organization.
  • You have a demonstrable history of shipping user-facing products.
  • You have experience building or scaling internal tools or operational platforms that streamline workflows and increase team efficiency.
  • You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity and enjoy solving complex technical challenges that have a large impact on business operations.
  • You value technical quality and maintain a strong sense of ownership over long term maintainability, even in fast paced environments.
  • You have a passion for Alma's mission – to improve the experience of therapy for providers and their clients, and simplify access to care.
  • You have experience demonstrating DEI best practices in both your leadership style and while leading recruiting processes to build out an inclusive team.
  • You have a track record of growing healthy, high performing teams by fostering psychological safety, creating opportunities for growth, and promoting sustainable ways of working.

Salary Band: $150,200 - $214,400
