Job Description

The Role: As a Manager within the Validation, Tools, Acceleration (VTA) team under the Simulation, Evaluation, and Data organization, you will lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team responsible for building and optimizing the infrastructure and technology for all testing and evaluation workflows. Your focus will include setting and communicating the technical vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with broader company objectives, and managing the growth and performance of your team. You will be accountable for the delivery of robust systems and data processing pipelines for large-scale analysis, and for cultivating a strong engineering culture that enables success across AV/ADAS development projects. You will advocate for software engineering best practices and empower your team to develop tools that promote these standards company-wide.

About the Organization: Validation, Tools, Acceleration (VTA) team builds world-class testing and analysis related products and technologies to enable GM to accelerate development of autonomous vehicles. Our customers range from AV developers who need to understand the effects of their code on vehicle behavior, data engineers who use our data pipelines to build the craziest insights for various evaluation needs, to the release team who track top-line performance metrics on releases. VTA aims to deliver intuitive user experiences for robotics and AI engineers that accelerate GM towards a driverless future. VTA is building the core infra and architecture to support testing at scale. As part of this team, you will guide the building of infra and required tech for test organization, test triggering, and test analysis workflows and the related data pipelines, ensuring efficient collaboration and execution across the org.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team, providing coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities.

  • Work closely with senior leadership to define and communicate the technical vision and strategy, ensuring team goals align with broader company objectives.

  • Oversee the design and implementation of systems capable of supporting simulation of millions of miles of driving every day to predict on-road performance.

  • Drive the delivery of reliable software through effective project management, continuous integration, and best engineering practices.

  • Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team culture, and champion the GM engineering values and principles.

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top-tier engineering talent in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams to ensure seamless integration of validation tools and workflows.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)​​ :

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • Proven experience managing and scaling high-performing engineering teams with a focus on operational excellence

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate teams, drive best practices, and deliver continuous improvement.

  • Broad exposure to the end-to-end product engineering stack, from frontend to infrastructure.

  • Experience with SOA or microservice-based architectures, large scale distributed systems, and common cloud platforms like AWS/GCP.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and people leadership skills.

  • Familiarity with Python, Go, Node, React or other web development frameworks/languages.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL (or similar relational database) and data warehouse technologies like BigQuery or Amazon Redshift.

  • Passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)​:

  • A background in robotics, ROS, or the AV/ADAS industry.

  • Scientific Analysis experience.

  • Experience with building high quality dev productivity tools.

  • Experience working with SQL-based data transformation tools such as DBT, Dataform, SQLMesh, etc.

  • Experience with modern production C++ applications.

  • Experience developing high-quality software under significant latency and performance constraints.

  • Experience developing or working with safety-critical code.

Compensation:

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.

  • The salary range for this role is $195,000 to $298,800. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
