We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Learning and Development to drive our leadership and learning objectives across D2L. This is a dynamic and high-profile role that reports directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO) and drives meaningful impact. This includes spearheading the creation and implementation of a comprehensive end to end learning strategy and execution of our learning programs.

As the Director, Learning and Development you will manage the activities involved in the design, preparation, delivery and needs assessment of training and development programs for company leaders and employees. You will partner with other HR professionals to assess and implement organizational development programs, processes and training initiatives to support organizational strategies. In this critical role, you'll also determine D2L's needs for leadership development, succession planning, career management, interpersonal skills and communication training. You will be looked at as the expert when it comes to developing and/or approving content, methods, and materials for training staff and may deliver some of these courses, and will develop methods for evaluation of program effectiveness. Other areas that the Director for Learning and Development will impact include development and delivery of programs, such as new employee orientation, performance management and/or organizational development training. Major Responsibilities (How Will I Make an Impact?):

Learning Strategy:

  • Develop and execute a forward-thinking learning strategy aligned with People and Culture (PnC) and D2L organizational goals, focusing on the unique needs of both individual contributors and leaders.
  • Establish the new D2L ways of working learning program and leadership development framework

Program Development and Execution:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate learning programs that cater to a diverse workforce, leveraging and exhausting our internal learning platform capabilities (Wave and Brightspace).
  • Create engaging and scalable learning experiences, ensuring continuous skill development and career growth.
  • Implement curated learning journeys tailored to Executive, Leadership and Individual contributor needs and aligned to D2L ways of working

Technology and Data Integration:

  • Integrate technology and data-driven insights into learning programs to enhance effectiveness and measure the impact of learning initiatives.
  • Understanding of HRIS and learning platform integration capabilities.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and utilize analytics to measure the effectiveness of learning programs, making data-driven adjustments as needed

Executive Presence and Influencing:

  • Demonstrate strong executive presence and influencing skills to garner support for learning initiatives at all levels of the organization, including the C-suite.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, PnC business partners, and external experts to bring innovative learning solutions to the organization.

Change Management:

  • Implement change management strategies to ensure successful adoption and integration of new learning initiatives within the organization.

Learning Culture Promotion:

  • Foster a learning culture by promoting continuous learning, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration across teams.

Competencies (What you’ll bring to the role):

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing comprehensive learning programs within the technology or education technology sector preferred.
  • Executive presence and influencing skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with leaders at all levels.
  • Experience in creating learning experiences for both individual contributors and leadership development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Change management expertise, including the ability to navigate and drive change within an organization.

Skills

  • Deep learning and higher education experience
  • Tech-savvy with a strong understanding of learning technologies and data analytics.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.

Skills and Recommended Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Learning and Development, Human Resources, Education, or a related field.

The expected base salary range for a new hire in this role is listed below. The annualized base salary offered is determined by each candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, training and experience. It is aligned to ensure both internal and external competitiveness using market data for the geographic location and industry. As part of the total compensation at D2L the role may be eligible for additional benefits including a Wellness Subsidy, Equity Grants, Variable Incentive, and more.

Base Salary Range$120,000—$140,000 CAD
