About The Internship

As a Data Science Intern, you will be responsible for suggesting and conducting analytics to support several teams throughout the company, such as Product, Traffic, Marketplace, and Finance. You’ll assist in developing predictive models that will help grow the business by identifying the highest-converting leads and providing novel insights to our clients. You will be expected to utilize the best algorithms and methods for each problem, and to have a “hands-on” approach, working on all stages of the analytics process as required by the company.

The Data Science team is responsible for turning the organization’s raw data into impactful insights that will help ConsumerAffairs grow and increase the value it provides to its customers. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to understand their business needs, determine and propose which kinds of analyses will be required to improve their processes, and assess which data will need to be collected to that end. Your insights will guide the decisions made by stakeholders to grow the business.

Responsibilities

These responsibilities are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Interns will be required to perform other job-related duties as required.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand their business needs and propose suitable analytic approaches to improve processes
  • Review company databases and engage in discussions with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities that can drive business growth.
  • Develop and implement models to improve key performance indicators (KPIs) for different teams. Example use cases would involve identifying leads that are most likely to convert based on their characteristics and behavior; forecast website traffic based on seasonal trends; optimize Paid Traffic campaigns and keywords; etc.
  • Research and apply state-of-the-art algorithms to extract impactful and actionable insights from collected data and stay updated with the latest advancements in data science and analytic techniques to contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives
  • Write clean, robust, and maintainable code following best practices, collaborating effectively with other team members
  • Communicate the results of the analysis to stakeholders through comprehensive reports and presentations, highlighting key findings and recommendations.

Requirements

Qualifications & Credentials

  • Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Economics or related analytic field (completed or in progress), or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using at least one of R and Python, or similar languages.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a relevant position involving the analysis of data and creation of reports.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience using SQL or similar language.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience with time series analysis and natural language processing (NLP)
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
  • Knowledge of popular data science toolkits, such as Python’s Scikit-Learn, Keras, TensorFlow and Pytorch.
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a direct and actionable fashion.
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools (such as Tableau) and databases architecture (such as Snowflake) preferred.
  • Strong analytical and Problem Solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet aggressive deadlines, and work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Specific Measures of Success – Expected Outcomes

  • Develop a high level of subject matter knowledge with regard to existing Data Science models
  • Create evidential/supporting documentation and build stakeholder support with regard to modeling projects
  • Train and release a model update

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

Location: Remote/ Tulsa

Frequency of travel: Occasional travel may be required for meetings, training and/or conferences.

Light physical activities and efforts required in working within an office environment.
