We are Carta, a company driven by the mission to create more owners. We believe that in a world where nearly everything is owned, too few people have a stake in what they help build. Ownership is powerful; while wages provide linear growth, equity has the potential for exponential returns. This conviction is at the core of everything we do. We understand that as long as there's a disparity between those who own and those who don't, wealth inequality will continue to grow. Furthermore, we've seen firsthand how ownership fosters alignment. When individuals are owners, they move in unison towards the long-term success of their endeavors, solving problems, growing, and sharing in the rewards collectively.

Our journey began in 2012, founded as eShares by Henry Ward and Manu Kumar, with the goal of simplifying equity management for private companies. We saw a critical need for venture-backed companies to electronically manage their equity, issue securities, and accurately track their cap tables. What started with digitizing paper stock certificates has expanded into a comprehensive platform. We now provide tools for capitalization table management, 409A valuations, compensation management, and liquidity solutions. We're passionate about making it easier to start a company, which is why we offer Carta Launch, a free program for early-stage founders. We also support the ecosystem through Carta Ventures, seeding the next generation of investors. Recognizing that equity can be complex, we developed Equity 101, a free educational resource to help everyone understand its value. We are committed to building the infrastructure that fuels innovation, lowers barriers to entry, and propels the world into an era where more people can experience the benefits of ownership. Today, we are trusted by tens of thousands of companies, numerous investment funds, and millions of employees and shareholders globally to manage their equity.
