BAE Systems Digital Intelligence is home to 4,500 digital, cyber and intelligence experts. We work collaboratively across 10 countries to collect, connect and understand complex data, so that governments, nation states, armed forces and commercial businesses can unlock digital advantage in the most demanding environments.

Role summary

This is a unique opportunity to join the newly-created Analytics Hub within the FP&A Finance team. As the Finance Analyst in the team you will be involved throughout the lifecycle of Analytics development projects, from the idea generating stage to delivering enterprise-wide analytics capabilities to the Finance Function. The team is small so your input will be key to ensuring the success of these projects; this is certainly a role where you will be able to easily see the positive impact of your contributions.

Because the work is project based, there is no typical day or even a typical month. On any one day you could be in a workshop with our internal customers helping to define their requirements; you could be working with developers to put the finishing touches on a dashboard; you could be slicing and dicing data to identify where a process is going wrong; or you could be mocking up a draft solution in Excel to talk through with a developer.

This is a role that will require a high degree of collaboration with others in the wider team, so ideally you should expect to spend at least one day per week in the Guildford office with the rest of the week at home if you wish.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting development projects in the Analytics space, which could include:
    • Clarifying and defining requirements
    • Gathering data to feed into proof of concept builds
    • Working closely with developers to ensure solutions fit the defined requirements
    • Testing developed solutions
    • Delivering comms to internal stakeholders
    • Creating and delivering training to users
  • Supporting other internal process / system improvement projects, which could include:
    • Ad hoc and regular analysis to identify issues or opportunities for improvement
    • Creative problem-solving to come up with potential solutions
    • Testing support

What we’re looking for

  • Essential:
    • Good communication skills; you need to be able to explain technical concepts to non-technical people and vice versa.
    • Experience in data analysis, handling different data sets and understanding how they fit together.
    • Curiosity and problem-solving skills, plus a desire to improve process and technology.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • The ability to build good working relationships with others.
    • Personal time management and organisation skills.
  • Desirable:
    • Qualified accountant.
    • Knowledge of the systems and tools we use e.g. Alteryx, Tableau, Adaptive, SAP
