Stavros Pastellides

I've designed and optimised permanent magnet electric machines and integrated drive systems for light electric vehicle traction applications through my PhD at Stellenbosch University.

My doctoral work developed optimisation methodologies using Python and electromagnetic FEA, driven by realistic vehicle driving cycles and application requirements. I designed and experimentally validated a novel surface-mounted permanent magnet motor with improved field-weakening performance.

I work across electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical and drive-system considerations, using ANSYS Maxwell and Python-based modelling to simulate, test and evaluate motors and generators. I've also authored and co-authored peer-reviewed and international conference publications on electric machine design and EV traction systems.

Alongside my engineering research, I founded and operate Whale Coast Brewing Co., where I lead a team of 13 and manage production, procurement, cost control and strategy. That experience has strengthened how I manage projects, balance competing priorities and turn technical and operational improvements into results.
