Purva Gohil

I am a senior research fellow and accomplished bioinformatician with a Master’s in Microbiology and three years of hands-on experience in genomic analysis, NGS raw data analysis, and microbiome studies. I specialize in microbial genomics, metagenomics (targeted/WGS), variant calling, phylogenetics, pangenomics, and transcriptomics, and I am actively expanding into eukaryotic and cancer genomics.

At the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre I led and integrated bioinformatics pipelines to discover novel enzymes from rumen metagenomes, perform protein structure and enzyme function prediction, and conduct comparative fungal genome analyses. I have led whole-genome sequence analyses of isolates, characterized probiotic properties through in vitro and in silico approaches, and conducted metagenomic profiling of bovine vaginal microbiota before and after treatment.

I collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, contributed to COVID-19 diagnostics during India’s second wave, and analyzed outbreak and epidemiological data such as Lumpy Skin Disease and bacterial outbreaks in buffalo breeds. I am committed to continuous professional development and to applying my computational and experimental expertise to advance bioinformatics research in health and agriculture.
