Leonardo Murillo

With over 25 years of experience in the IT industry, I have gained hands-on and leadership experience across a wide range of domains including software engineering, data engineering, cloud computing, DevOps, and MLOps. I have delivered dozens of talks on various topics such as observability, release and deployment best practices, cloud-native software design principles and architecture, multicloud GitOps deployments, and more. My expertise has been recognized by TechStrong.tv, DevOps.com, and other outlets, including the Gremlin Break Things on Purpose Podcast. I am also the lead author of the AIOps Foundation Certification course published by the DevOps Institute and serve as a DevOps Institute Ambassador and DevNetwork Advisory Board Member.

In my recent professional experience as an Independent Consultant at CloudNativeArchitectsInc, I've led and built brand new, next-generation infrastructure for cloud native containerized service, helped teas adopt best practices and cloud-native patterns, including fully automated CI/CD, cross-environment release promotion, and fully codified infrastructure and GitOps native continuous reconciliation.

I also worked with the AI Engineering Team and DevOps Teams to build frameworks that enabled the company to expose extended and enriched capabilities by orchestrating requests across multiple, single-purpose machine learning model endpoints. Additionally, I built a fully automated and GitOps-driven build and release pipeline for all new machine learning models running on SageMaker.

Prior to my consulting role, I served as the Vice President of Software Engineering at 66degrees Inc., a professional services organization delivering engineering consulting services for Google Cloud Users. In this role, I was responsible for the full Software Engineering practice, overseeing leadership, strategy, and hands-on involvement in escalated projects. I successfully delivered projects on time and on budget while continuously improving the software engineering practice's capabilities and team member maturity. I also played a key role in developing and implementing best practices, patterns, and reusable artifacts related to code quality, systems architecture and design, and documentation. Additionally, I collaborated closely with leaders from other practices, developed engagement right-sizing and estimation, and established ongoing communication and mentorship with direct reports.
