I'm a principal engineer with 14 years of experience building systems end to end, from native iOS and Android apps and the devices they connect to, through the cloud services and security platforms behind them.
Since 2019 I've been a Principal Engineer at Highmark, setting architecture and technical direction across cross-functional teams. I architected and led a shared OAuth 2.0 authentication and authorization platform with multi-factor authentication, least-privilege access, and secure secret management. It now secures at least seven applications. I served as the primary technical consultant to the teams adopting it, helping them implement OAuth correctly and understand how their applications fit into our broader identity ecosystem. I also unified fragmented account security and access settings into one centralized platform.
I lead an R&D team that turns emerging technologies into proofs of concept and MVPs that prove value. On a digital Chronic Care Management pilot, I was the primary engineer for its AWS infrastructure, contributed to the native mobile app, and led the collaboration with external consultants. I also designed and built an iOS Chat SDK that's used across multiple product lines.
Before that, I spent seven years at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where I was lead developer on three enterprise iOS and Android apps and managed release for more than 100 apps in the public app stores while stepping into a lead role during a high-traffic eCommerce re-platform.
Skills
Native mobile: Swift and Kotlin, with end-to-end ownership through code signing and release
Device to cloud: Bluetooth, WebSockets, and HealthKit integrations, plus mock and simulation layers that make external devices testable before hardware is available
Cloud and backend: AWS and GCP, serverless and containers, REST APIs in Go, NestJS, and Python, Kafka and Pub/Sub, PostgreSQL, and Terraform
Security: OAuth 2.0/OIDC, identity platforms, and authorization architecture
I favor simple, low-debt architecture and deliberate tradeoffs over unnecessary complexity. I work closely with product partners to find the real problem before designing the solution. I use AI tools such as Claude, Codex, and GitLab Duo throughout development.
I'm drawn to software that has a tangible impact on the real world, especially products that monitor, control, or connect physical equipment. Outside work I build at that layer myself: embedded Linux CAN bus displays, PCB reverse engineering, and vehicle wiring and control systems. I'm interested in principal and staff roles at organizations where engineering decisions connect directly to the product and the people who use it.
