Chiamaka Okeke
@chiamakaokeke2
Interdisciplinary researcher with a PhD in Bioinformatics. Skilled in NGS analysis, pipeline development, and bioinformatics training
What I'm looking for
I hold a PhD in Bioinformatics from Rhodes University, South Africa, and have postdoctoral experience in cancer genomics and translational bioinformatics. My research has focused on analysing high‑throughput sequencing data (whole‑exome and RNA‑seq) to identify disease drivers, characterise molecular subtypes, and integrate genomic findings with clinical outcomes. I have developed reproducible pipelines using Nextflow, nf‑core, and custom Python/R scripts, and I am highly proficient in Linux/HPC environments, variant calling, and statistical analysis. Beyond technical work, I am passionate about teaching and collaboration. I have mentored undergraduate and graduate interns, delivered bioinformatics training to biologists with no prior coding experience, and worked closely with wet‑lab scientists and clinicians to translate complex data into actionable insights. I am now eager to apply my scientific expertise in a customer‑facing role, helping researchers design optimal NGS experiments, troubleshoot data analysis challenges, and adopt cutting‑edge genomic technologies. I am particularly interested in supporting custom NGS panel design, target enrichment, and bioinformatics workflows that enable successful customer outcomes.
