Alana Johnson

I've taught Caribbean and global history at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, the College of the Bahamas, and Combermere School, creating courses from introductory Caribbean history to postgraduate Barbados politics.

My research examines slavery, emancipation, migration, black freedom, and Samuel Jackman Prescod in Barbados. I published work on post-emancipation Barbados and contributed The Barbados Chapter to The Marcus Garvey and Universal Negro Improvement Association Papers.

For J F Clarke Consultancy Inc., I delivered policy analysis on human mobility and climate change in the Caribbean for GIZ. I've also supported research for the Barbados National Commission for UNESCO, the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, and UWI.

I bring rigorous archival research, clear academic writing, curriculum development, and public lecturing to projects that deepen engagement with Caribbean history and its global significance.
