Akale Assamere Habtemariam
@akaleassamerehabtema
Biology researcher advancing mycorrhiza-based, climate-smart agriculture through sustainable farming.
What I'm looking for
I’m a researcher and academic at MekdelaAmba University in Ethiopia’s Department of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences. I hold a PhD from Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Hungary, where I specialized in truffle cultivation and mycorrhizal associations, focusing on fungal–plant symbiosis and its role in sustainable agriculture. My work bridges agronomy and plant biology with nutrition-sensitive and climate-resilient farming systems, including mycorrhiza and endophyte interactions.
I’ve also researched Ethiopian local barley varieties, contributing to their characterization, conservation, and sustainable use. Alongside my research, I bring extensive academic leadership and institutional service experience—working on examination and standardization committees, developing policy briefs, organizing national conferences, and serving as Director of Continuing and Distance Education. My applied work includes nursery development, environmental initiatives, and promotion of climate-smart agriculture, with active support for rural communities through nutrition improvement and sustainable livelihood programs.
