Afraa Sheik
@afraasheik
Physiotherapist focused on holistic, evidence-based rehabilitation for patients across neurological, musculoskeletal, and cardiopulmonary conditions.
What I'm looking for
I’m a highly motivated physiotherapist passionate about helping patients improve their wellbeing holistically. With a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, and rehabilitation techniques, I assess and treat a wide range of conditions while building meaningful rapport through clear communication.
I completed my BSc Physiotherapy (Hons) at the University of Cape Town, along with clinical physiotherapy, clinical sciences, movement sciences, and research methods and biostatistics. I also earned an academic award for the best overall research project in research methods and biostatistics.
My clinical experience spans cardiothoracic ICU work, neurological and burns rehabilitation, intermediate care, and community-based rehabilitation. I’ve delivered patient education, supported multidisciplinary teamwork, and tailored rehabilitation programs for efficient return to work, independence, and long-term self-management—across adult, paediatric, and geriatric populations.
Currently, I rotate through KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health settings with comprehensive physiotherapy assessments and individualized treatment plans for stroke (CVA), osteoarthritis (OA), and musculoskeletal and neurological impairments. I’m also leading a community service officer (CSO) project improving outcomes for chronic CVA and OA patients through in-service training and group rehabilitation classes, and I’m building further clinical strength in outpatient and hospital settings, including ICU early mobilization and workmen’s compensation reporting.
