Βασίλης Πλιάσσας

I’m a Backend Engineer with more than 10 years of proven experience designing and building robust architectures in PHP (Laravel), Python, Java, and JavaScript. I bring deep knowledge of algorithms, data structures, recommender systems, and MVC architecture, and I’m equally comfortable with complex enterprise applications and automating backend infrastructure.

As Owner / Lead Developer at FilmBase, I designed and delivered a film platform with an integrated Machine Learning system for personalized user recommendations. I developed a dynamic recommender system using content-based and collaborative filtering, improving recommendation accuracy based on user interaction.

I implemented the full CRUD lifecycle plus ratings, comments, watchlists, and advanced filtered search. I also connected metadata across actors, directors, genres, and related tags to create a rich relational network, building the application with JavaScript/HTML5/CSS3 on the frontend, Laravel (PHP) on the backend, and PostgreSQL for the database layer.

Beyond software, I’ve worked as a Substitute Science Teacher for the Ministry of Education & Religious Affairs, teaching Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology and integrating modern digital tools to improve engagement. I’m currently strengthening my technical foundation through Data Science with Python (in progress) and I’m motivated by open-source communities, problem-solving, and clear communication.
