Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Trail Maintenance Manager to oversee and enhance the maintenance of our extensive trail systems. This role is crucial in ensuring that all trails are safe, accessible, and well-preserved for recreational users while promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance plans for trails, ensuring consistent quality and safety standards are met.
- Lead a team of maintenance staff and volunteers, providing direction and training in trail construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance techniques.
- Conduct regular inspections of trails to identify maintenance needs, hazards, and opportunities for improvements.
- Collaborate with local organizations, government agencies, and community stakeholders to advocate for trail development and preservation initiatives.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively to execute maintenance projects within established timelines.
- Utilize GIS and other mapping technologies to maintain accurate records of trail conditions and maintenance activities.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in trail management, outdoor recreation, or a related field.
- Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing teams and projects.
- Strong knowledge of trail maintenance practices, safety regulations, and environmental conservation principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Preferred:
- Experience working with local government and community organizations.
- Familiarity with GIS software and trail mapping tools.
- Certification in wilderness first aid, chainsaw safety, or similar relevant training.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in using tools and equipment necessary for trail maintenance, including hand tools and power equipment.
