Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Microbiology to lead our innovative microbiology team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for establishing and guiding our microbiology research and development initiatives, ensuring that we maintain our position at the forefront of microbiological science and technology. You will drive strategies for the detection, analysis, and mitigation of microbial threats, while fostering a culture of scientific excellence and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of microbiologists, ensuring high-quality research output and alignment with organizational objectives
- Develop and implement comprehensive microbiology strategies that align with product development timelines and regulatory requirements
- Oversee the design and execution of experiments related to microbial identification, characterization, and resistance mechanisms
- Establish best practices for laboratory procedures, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, regulatory affairs, and quality assurance, to drive project success
- Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in microbiology, integrating relevant findings into ongoing projects
- Present findings and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and stakeholders
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing high-performing research teams
- Extensive knowledge of microbial pathogenesis, antimicrobial resistance, and microbiological techniques
- Proven track record of successful project management and execution of research initiatives
Preferred:
- Experience in product development and regulatory submissions related to microbiological products
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in grant writing and securing external funding for research projects
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in molecular microbiology techniques, including PCR, sequencing, and culture methods
- Proficiency in bioinformatics tools for microbial analysis
- Familiarity with laboratory management systems and compliance standards
