Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Clinical Microbiology to lead our clinical microbiology laboratory operations. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of microbiological testing and analysis, ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance. You will drive strategic initiatives, manage personnel, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance our commitment to innovative healthcare solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the clinical microbiology department, ensuring operational excellence and compliance with regulatory standards
- Develop and implement protocols and procedures for microbiological testing and laboratory practices
- Oversee the validation and integration of new testing methodologies and technologies into clinical workflows
- Ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results through rigorous quality control and assurance measures
- Manage and mentor laboratory staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
- Collaborate with clinical teams to interpret microbiological data and provide consultative support for patient care
- Drive research initiatives and contribute to publications in the field of microbiology
- Participate in budget management and resource allocation for the clinical microbiology department
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- In-depth knowledge of microbiological testing methods, laboratory accreditation standards, and regulations
- Proven track record of successful project management and team leadership
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex microbiological data
Preferred:
- Experience with molecular diagnostics and next-generation sequencing technologies
- Fellowship in Clinical Microbiology (ABMM or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience in clinical research and publication
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in microbiological testing techniques such as culture, PCR, and MALDI-TOF
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and electronic health records (EHR)
- Strong understanding of bioinformatics tools and data analysis software
