Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Archivist Manager (Images) to oversee our digital image archive, ensuring the preservation, accessibility, and integrity of our visual assets. In this role, you will lead a team of archivists and collaborate cross-functionally to enhance our archive management processes, implement best practices, and drive innovative solutions for digital asset management.
Responsibilities
- Manage the acquisition, organization, and preservation of digital images, ensuring compliance with archival standards and practices.
- Lead a team of archivists, providing mentorship, training, and performance evaluations to foster professional development and drive team success.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and workflows for digital asset management, including metadata standards and quality control measures.
- Collaborate with IT and software development teams to enhance digital archive systems, ensuring robust functionality and user experience.
- Conduct regular audits of the digital image collection to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organizational standards.
- Engage with stakeholders to understand their needs and promote the value of the archive, facilitating access to visual assets for various projects and initiatives.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science, Archival Studies, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in archival management or digital asset management, with a focus on images.
- Demonstrated understanding of archival standards, metadata standards (such as Dublin Core), and digital asset management systems.
- Proven experience in leading and managing teams, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with visual storytelling and the cultural significance of images in digital archives.
- Familiarity with software tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, CONTENTdm, or similar digital asset management platforms.
- Knowledge of copyright, intellectual property rights, and ethical considerations in archival practices.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Extensive experience with digital asset management systems and database management.
- Proficiency in image editing software and tools for optimizing digital content.
- Understanding of current trends and technologies in digital preservation and archiving.
