Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Processing Archivist to join our archival team. In this role, you will assist in the organization, preservation, and accessibility of our digital and physical archival collections. You will play a crucial part in supporting the mission of preserving historical records and ensuring they are available for research and educational purposes.
Responsibilities
- Assist in processing archival materials by arranging, describing, and cataloging collections according to established standards and best practices.
- Conduct preliminary research on collections and develop finding aids to enhance accessibility.
- Collaborate with senior archivists to implement digitization projects and ensure quality control of digital assets.
- Participate in outreach activities to promote awareness of archival resources and services.
- Maintain accurate records of processing activities in accordance with institutional policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in archival studies, history, library science, or a related field.
- Familiarity with archival principles, practices, and standards.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic understanding of digital archiving and preservation techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working or volunteering in an archival or library setting.
- Knowledge of archival software and databases.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software tools.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with metadata standards such as Dublin Core or EAD (Encoded Archival Description).
