Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Archives to lead our archival initiatives and manage our extensive collection of historical documents and records. This role will play a pivotal part in shaping archival policies, ensuring the preservation of our organizational heritage, and enhancing access to our archival resources while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive archival strategies and policies to ensure the effective management and preservation of archival materials.
- Oversee the digitization and cataloging of archival collections, ensuring accessibility and usability for internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead a team of archivists and support staff, providing mentorship and fostering professional development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify archival needs and develop initiatives to promote archival resources within the organization.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external partners, including academic institutions, libraries, and cultural organizations.
- Monitor industry trends and best practices in archival science and implement innovative solutions to enhance our archival program.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Archival Science, Library Science, History, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in archival management, with a proven track record in leadership roles.
- Strong understanding of archival standards, practices, and technologies.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead teams effectively.
Preferred:
- Experience with digital preservation and archival management systems.
- Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising for archival initiatives.
- Publication or presentations within the archival field.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in archival management software and digital asset management systems.
- Experience with metadata standards and digitization processes.
- Strong analytical skills to assess archival needs and develop solutions.
