Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Histology Manager to lead our histology laboratory operations. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the histology team, ensuring high-quality histological preparations, and driving continuous improvement in laboratory processes. You will play a key role in managing workflow, training staff, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support research and clinical projects.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily histology lab operations, ensuring adherence to quality standards and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Manage and mentor a team of histotechnologists, providing training and support to foster professional development
- Develop and implement histology protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance efficiency and productivity
- Collaborate with pathologists and researchers to determine histological needs for various projects
- Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of histology equipment and laboratory instruments
- Analyze histological data and provide insights to support scientific research and clinical diagnostics
- Participate in budget planning and resource allocation for the histology department
- Stay current with advancements in histological techniques and technologies, implementing best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Biology, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in histology with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and electronic lab notebooks (ELN)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a relevant field
- Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnology Manager
- Experience in a clinical laboratory setting
- Familiarity with molecular pathology techniques and technologies
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in histology software and digital imaging technologies
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and quality control measures
- Experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH) techniques
