Role Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Histology Supervisor to lead our histopathology laboratory. In this pivotal role, you will oversee laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with quality standards while fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. Your expertise will drive the development and implementation of histological techniques that support our diagnostic and research goals.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily laboratory operations, ensuring adherence to safety and quality control standards
- Manage the histology team, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities
- Develop and implement histological techniques and protocols to enhance laboratory efficiency and accuracy
- Collaborate with pathologists and other laboratory staff to facilitate seamless workflow and effective communication
- Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal functioning and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Conduct regular quality assurance audits and implement corrective actions as needed
- Prepare and manage budgets, including resource allocation and expense tracking
- Stay current with advancements in histology and related technologies to inform laboratory practices
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Biological Sciences, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in histology, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining
- Experience with laboratory accreditation processes and compliance standards, such as CLIA and CAP
Preferred:
- Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- Advanced degree in a related field
- Experience in a research laboratory setting
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in using histotechnology equipment, such as microtomes and tissue processors
- Familiarity with digital pathology and imaging technologies
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide insights
