Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wildland Fire Manager to join our team. This role is critical in developing and executing strategies for managing wildland fire risks, ensuring the safety of personnel, resources, and the environment. You will leverage your expertise to lead fire management operations and collaborate with various stakeholders to foster a proactive fire management culture.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive wildland fire management plans, including prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery strategies
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential fire hazards and vulnerabilities across various landscapes
- Coordinate and lead prescribed burns and wildfire suppression efforts, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations
- Manage and mentor fire management teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety
- Collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure effective communication and coordination during fire incidents
- Analyze data and reporting metrics to assess the effectiveness of fire management strategies and make data-driven recommendations
- Engage with community stakeholders to educate and inform about fire risks and mitigation strategies
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in wildland fire management or related fields
- Strong knowledge of fire behavior, ecology, and management practices
- Experience with incident command systems and emergency response protocols
Preferred:
- Advanced certifications in wildland fire management (e.g., NWCG qualifications)
- Experience with GIS and fire modeling tools
- Proven track record of successful project management and team leadership
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in fire management software and GIS applications
- Strong analytical skills to interpret fire data and modeling outputs
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance standards
