Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Entry-Level Wildland Firefighter to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in wildfire suppression efforts, working alongside experienced firefighters to protect lives, property, and natural resources. Your commitment to safety and teamwork will be essential as you engage in various firefighting tasks and training exercises in dynamic environments.
Responsibilities
- Participate in wildfire suppression activities, including fire line construction, backburning, and mop-up operations.
- Assist in the operation of firefighting equipment and tools while adhering to safety protocols.
- Engage in physical training and drills to ensure readiness for wildfire response.
- Support experienced firefighters in assessing fire behavior and developing strategies for effective suppression.
- Maintain equipment and vehicles, ensuring all tools are in good working order.
- Contribute to community education and outreach efforts regarding fire safety and prevention.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to pass a physical fitness test and meet the demands of strenuous outdoor work.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong commitment to teamwork and a willingness to learn from experienced firefighters.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role or participation in outdoor activities.
- Basic knowledge of wildland fire behavior and safety protocols.
- Completion of Wildland Firefighter training courses (e.g., S-130, S-190) is a plus.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with firefighting tools and equipment, including hand tools, chainsaws, and pumps.
- Ability to navigate using maps and GPS devices in remote environments.
- Basic understanding of radio communication protocols.
