Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Incident Commander (Wildland Firefighter) to lead and coordinate wildfire response efforts at [$COMPANY_NAME]. Responsibilities
- Lead the incident command team in the development and execution of incident action plans (IAPs) for wildfire response.
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure seamless communication and collaboration during wildfire incidents.
- Assess and analyze fire behavior, environmental conditions, and resource availability to make informed operational decisions.
- Manage and oversee firefighting resources, including personnel, equipment, and logistics, to ensure efficient deployment and utilization.
- Conduct regular briefings and debriefings with incident personnel to communicate objectives, assess progress, and address challenges.
- Implement safety protocols and ensure compliance with incident management policies to protect personnel and the public.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to incident staff, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in wildland firefighting or emergency management, with a demonstrated track record of leadership in complex incident scenarios.
- Certification as an Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3) or higher, with a thorough understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS).
- Extensive knowledge of wildland fire behavior, suppression tactics, and safety protocols.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments.
Preferred:
- Experience in multi-agency coordination and management of large-scale wildfire incidents.
- Advanced certifications in wildland fire management, such as Incident Commander Type 2 (ICT2) or Fire Behavior Analyst (FBAN).
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and fire modeling software.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in using incident management software and tools for resource tracking and reporting.
- Experience with aerial firefighting coordination and operations.
- Knowledge of wildfire risk assessment methodologies and mitigation strategies.
