Role Overview
We are seeking a visionary and experienced Chief Forest Fire Officer to lead our strategic initiatives in wildfire management and prevention. In this critical role, you will architect and implement comprehensive fire management programs, utilizing advanced technologies and data-driven approaches to minimize wildfire risks and protect natural resources. Your leadership will influence policy development and foster collaboration across various stakeholders, from government agencies to community organizations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for wildfire management, including prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of fire management professionals, providing mentorship and fostering professional growth
- Collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies to enhance wildfire response capabilities and resource allocation
- Utilize GIS and remote sensing technologies to analyze fire risk and develop predictive models for wildfire behavior
- Engage with community stakeholders to promote fire safety education and awareness programs
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of fire management strategies, adjusting plans based on performance metrics and changing environmental conditions
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Fire Science, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in wildfire management, including leadership roles
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful fire management policies and programs
- Strong understanding of fire behavior, ecology, and the impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems
- Exceptional analytical skills, with experience using data to inform decision making
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with diverse stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in a related field
- Experience with advanced fire suppression technologies and methods
- Familiarity with national fire management policies and regulations
- Published research in wildfire management or related areas
- Experience in crisis management and emergency response planning
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in GIS software and remote sensing tools
