Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Fire Operations Forester to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will support fire management operations through the implementation of fire prevention strategies and assist in the planning and execution of prescribed burns. You will work closely with experienced foresters and contribute to maintaining healthy ecosystems while ensuring community safety.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of prescribed burns in accordance with established safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Conduct field assessments to gather data on vegetation, weather conditions, and other factors influencing fire behavior.
- Support the development and implementation of fire management plans while adhering to best practices and land management objectives.
- Participate in post-burn assessments to evaluate burn effectiveness and gather insights for future operations.
- Assist in the monitoring of fire risk levels and communicate relevant information to stakeholders.
- Contribute to public education initiatives regarding fire safety and prevention measures.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of fire behavior, ecology, and land management principles.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow safety protocols in field operations.
Preferred:
- Experience with fire operations through internships, volunteer work, or academic projects.
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies.
- Certification in Wildland Firefighter (S-130/S-190) or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Basic proficiency in GIS software and mapping tools.
- Experience with data collection and analysis methods for ecological field studies.
- Knowledge of fire management software tools and applications is a plus.
