The company's history dates back to the Auckland Electric Power Board (AEPB), formed in 1922. Through various transformations, including becoming Mercury Energy Limited, Vector Limited was established in 1999. A significant portion of Vector's shares, 75.1%, are held by Entrust (formerly the Auckland Energy Consumer Trust), with the remaining 24.9% traded on the NZX.
