This position is funded by State Compensatory Education funds. The Intervention Teacher is a highly qualified, state certified teacher who is responsible for delivering academic intervention beyond the General Education classroom to At-Risk students in both Synchronous and Asynchronous environments to reduce the disparity in academic performance on State assessment instrument administered under Subchapter B, Chapter 39 TEC in Math and Reading and to reduce the disparity in the rates of high school completion between students at risk of dropping out of school and all other LEA students.

This position offers a base salary of $49,000.00, plus the eligibility of a performance bonus.

Instructional

  • Uses student data to design, plan, and implement student academic intervention to address specific and demonstrated academic need

  • Gathers and documents student responses to the prescribed interventions being implemented

  • Develops and achieves a high level of proficiency on online platforms used for academic intervention for At-Risk students

  • Utilizes researched-based instructional design and delivery techniques when delivering interventions to At-Risk students.

  • Seeks out Professional Development to continue to grow and improve as an educator specializing in meeting the Academic needs of At-Risk students.

  • Communicates in a professional manner with students and/or parents regarding progress, participation, or other information

  • Collaborates with general and special programs staff in order to communicate effectively and professionally about students and program

  • Maintains progress monitoring documentation for students

  • Participates in Response to Intervention meetings as needed

  • Attends training regarding instructional materials needed for implementation of SCE program

  • Provides focused live Class Connect sessions, up to five days per week in small group sessions, and coordinated delivery of additional instructional support through a dedicated Learning Management System (LMS) locally developed Intervention non-credit course;

  • Creates a library of “clean” mini-recordings on identified weak topics or student expectations (TEKS) to share with assigned intervention students, as well as to share with regular teachers of aligned subjects;

  • Attends weekly Intervention department meetings;

  • Attends weekly/biweekly individualized meetings with the Coordinator to review current data and plan instruction;

  • Develops weekly live session teaching plans;

  • Analyzes benchmark, checkpoint and state assessment data to create an instructional plan for interventions;

  • Participates in professional development for Interventionists specifically focused on research-based strategies for intervention/tutorial instruction;

  • Contributes to Student Achievement Improvement Plan (SAIP);

  • Collaborates with peers in order to provide a positive experience for students;

  • Builds community by contributing to school message boards, newsletters and events;

  • Travels to and participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions;

  • Maintains records regarding students in accordance with school policy and state requirements; prepare reports regarding students and classroom matters as directed;

  • Participates in committees as required.

This position may perform other duties as assigned in alignment with the SCE program. Duties this position may not perform:

  • Duties related to testing, such as test administration

  • Legislatively mandated duties or activities that are specifically allocated to a regular education position, such as provide course instruction as teacher of record

  • Activities or duties that would supplement anything other than the regular education program, such as parent/family liaison

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree AND

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Residency Requirement:

  • This position is virtual and strongly prefer residents of Texas. May consider residents of surrounding states (NM, OK, AR or LA). This position could include travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interpersonal skills emphasizing tact, patience and courtesy; ability to establish a professional, effective rapport with students

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook as well as Internet research methods and report writing techniques; Utilizes computer software associated with curriculum

  • Able to adapt learning plans to meet different needs and learning styles; create an instructional and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Demonstrates the use of good judgment in decision-making

  • Great organizational and time management skills

  • Customer service orientation

  • Understanding of applicable sections of the State Education Code and other pertinent regulations

  • Willingness and ability to obtain additional licensing as required

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time within and between assigned geographic areas to support students; attend regularly scheduled meetings and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations

  • Ability to clear required background check

DESIRED Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching at-risk students

  • Experience with charter school environment

  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology

  • Ability to learn new technologies and tools

  • Special education endorsement

  • Proficient in principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction for special needs students

  • Experience teaching in both online and in a brick-and-mortar environments
