SHE-CAN

What began as a vision to transform the leadership landscape in post-conflict nations has evolved into a powerful global movement. Founded in 2011 as the Open A Door Foundation, SHE-CAN (Supporting Her Education Changes A Nation) was born from the belief that women's leadership is the key to lasting peace and prosperity in countries recovering from strife. The organization's journey started with a focus on Rwanda, identifying high-potential young women who, despite their talent and ambition, lacked the resources to access world-class education. By pairing these scholars with dedicated teams of U.S. mentors and securing full-ride scholarships to top American universities, SHE-CAN created a unique model of cross-cultural support and empowerment.

Over the years, this initiative has expanded its reach, extending its transformative programs to Cambodia in 2014, Liberia in 2018, and most recently, Guatemala in 2021. The organization's narrative is one of persistent growth and deepening impact, as it builds a sisterhood of educated, confident female leaders ready to return home and drive systemic change. Today, SHE-CAN stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity, having supported over 100 scholars in securing millions of dollars in scholarships. These young women are not just students; they are emerging change-agents equipped with the skills, networks, and resilience needed to tackle their nations' most pressing challenges, from climate change to human rights, ensuring that women have a seat at the decision-making tables where the future is shaped.
