ABOUT RETOOL:
Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software: Gartner estimates that up to 50% of all code is written for internal use. This is the operational software for refunding orders, underwriting loans, onboarding employees, analyzing transactions, and providing customer support. But most companies don’t have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.
At Retool, we’re on a mission to bring good software to everyone. We’re building a new type of development platform that combines the benefits of traditional software development with a drag-and-drop UI editor and AI, making it dramatically faster to build internal tools. We believe that the future of software development lies in abstracting away the tedious and repetitive tasks developers waste time on, while creating reusable components that act as a force multiplier for future developers and projects. The result is not just productivity, but good software by default. And that’s a mission worth striving for.
Today, our customers span from small startups building their first operational tools to Fortune 500 companies building mission-critical apps for thousands of users across their business. Interested in joining us? Let us know!
WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU: Thousands of customers use Retool to power their businesses with custom internal software, from early-stage startups to Fortune 500 companies. As quickly as we’re growing, we’ve barely scratched the surface: we have a huge opportunity to share the value of Retool, the impact the product has for our customers, and how we’re changing the way internal tools are built. For most, our web presence is the first impression of Retool. No matter where a visitor lands—retool.com, our blog, the community, documentation—we want to create a cohesive interactive experience that reflects the power, flexibility, and speed of the Retool product. We have both high expectations and a demanding, technically-savvy audience of developers. We expect our web presence to be highly informative, eminently usable, and visually stunning. Most of all, it should meet our visitors at their point of need and provide a seamless transition to immediately building software inside of Retool. To help lead this vision, we’re looking for a full-stack web engineer interested in operating at the intersection of design, code, and content. WHAT YOU'LL DO: As an engineer on a small team focused on Retool’s web presence, you’ll own implementation of projects across all of our web touch points (retool.com, our blog, the community, documentation, and more) from start to finish. Working with internal and external stakeholders, you’ll collaborate on design approaches and communicate technical trade-offs. You’ll audit our current tech stack and content management infrastructure and design a path forward that scales with our aggressive goals and makes it easier for others to contribute. Most importantly, you’ll sweat the details: whether it’s implementing a complex React animation, shaving seconds off of time to interactive, or improving the reliability of the build pipeline. WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH: A small web engineering team focused on Retool’s web presence, you’ll be partnering closely with design, marketing, and growth to build a robust platform that helps us bring new features to market, deliver content to our customers and community, and ensure that visitors can discover and learn about Retool. You’ll be joining a broader team of Retools who are passionate about serving our customers and enjoy collaborating with each other to build a company from the ground up. IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL:- Lead development and operational efforts for Retool’s web presence, building performant, reliable, and maintainable solutions across retool.com, our blog, community, docs, and more
- Partner closely with the design team to implement beautiful, groundbreaking web experiences of exceptional quality
- Collaborate with the marketing and growth teams to shape our content infrastructure, optimize relevance for our technical audience, and integrate with the tools that power Retool’s go-to-market plans
- Help establish and maintain a design system for Retool’s web presence
- Stay educated on the latest in web development methodologies and new technologies, continually working to deliver an innovative web presence that stands apart in presentation and performance
THE SKILLSET YOU'LL BRING:
- 4+ years of experience with web standards and the modern full-stack web environment(HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, CSS pre/post-processors, CSS-in-JS libraries, build systems, and dependency management)
- Strong knowledge of the Jamstack paradigm, including the Gatsby and Next.js frameworks and the Contentful CMS platform
- Experience with performance and optimization problems and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent these problems
- Knowledge of current web accessibility standards and requirements
- A track record of successfully collaborating with design teams and/or personal experience designing websites, along with a relentless passion for nailing the details
- Basic familiarity with analytics and web monitoring platforms(like Google Analytics and Amplitude) and marketing concepts such as conversion, A/B testing, and lead generation
- Deep understanding of technical search engine optimization(SEO), how search engines work and interpret site architecture
- Ability to balance many simultaneous projects and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment
